Experiment metadata
Experiment metadata controls which study attributes are tracked and available in analysis.
Sex
Enable Sex if sex-specific analysis is relevant for your study.
- Adds sex as an animal metadata field
- Enables sex-based filtering and comparisons in downstream analysis
If your dataset uses only one sex and you do not need this distinction, you can disable it to simplify setup.
Groups
Enable Groups for cohort structure such as control vs treatment.
- Lets you define study groups
- Enables group-based organization and comparisons
Conditions
Enable Conditions for additional experimental labels (for example dose, protocol variant, or treatment state).
- Adds condition assignments for animals
- Enables condition-based stratification in analysis
Conditions depend on groups in the current workflow. If Groups is disabled, Conditions is disabled as well.
Good practice
Choose metadata settings before entering many animals. You can still change them later, but changes may require updating existing animal assignments.
